Boozle?

Man, that episode of Veronica Mars on Wednesday was WEIRD. The ads were all "Child abuse! An episode you'll never forget!" so I was thinking, "Man, this show is going from dark to pitch black," but then Emory and I actually watched the episode. It was HYSTERICAL. Argueably the most laugh-out-loud episode of the series ever. Logan was on point. Every exchange he has with Kendall made me laugh and laugh. And that quiet, well-behaved kid that Veronica babysat for? The speech his dad gives as he pays Veronica? Emory and I had to rewind it and watch it again. This whole episode was like something from the lighter side of Twin Peaks. And what was up with that ending? Weird, man. Weird.

In other news, Top Model is still the best/worst show on TV. I love how they eliminated Lisa solely on her heinous personality. "Jayla, you are a terrible model. Lisa, you take great pictures, but you are HORRENDOUS." I mean, I'm paraphrasing there, but that's the sentiment that was conveyed.

That VM episode was wierd but also, I thought, great. Liz and I had the exact smae reaction to the speech that Dad gave Veronica. So bizarre. But here's the thing: You were right when you said that throwing child abuse into the mix would push this season of VM "from dark to pitch black". I think this episode had to be wierd in order to soften the blow of the whole child abuse mystery.

Seriously, Meg's little sister sitting in that secret closet with those stacks and stacks of notebooks filled with creepy recitations, that shit was terrifying. Chilled me to the bone. A whole episode like that would have been such an opressive tonal shift. The episode really needed those quirkier moments to keep it from turning into an episode of Law & Order SVU.

That ending with Sheriff Lamb was great. Having this season's only concrete "bad guy" do something honorable, that kind of makes us like him, is awesome. VM has an uncanny knack for sensing when it's characters/relationships are teetering on the edge of cliche and then throwing in a little twist that makes you rethink everything. Even great shows like The X-Files and the all-holy Buffy mostly got along by poking fun at their own cliches without ever really addressing them.

Veronica Mars = Best Written Show on TV.

I will reiterate that while it was way weird, I also found it totally awesome.

I agree that this episode of VM felt like they were moving into Twin Peaks territory (although still on a lite basis). That was some bizarre sh*t. But Logan's verbal smackdown of Kendall still brought the funny. Oh, did I hurt your feeling?

Absolutely the best written show on network TV, on a consistent basis. No other show combines such complicated ongoing plotlines with deep layered characterization and always, always snap, crackle and pop dialogue.

never seen any of most of the shows you talk about (since even if i lived on a continent where they were broadcast, i probably still wouldn't have any time to watch television), but your mention of twin peaks reminded me of the tv soap opera within the series, called "invitation to love." wow. twin peaks was simply amazing. fucked up as all hell, but still amazing. ha.
