According to Variety, Nicole Kidman's signed on to play Ms. Coulter in The Golden Compass. I don't think she's ever played a villain before. Should be interesting. And am I the only one who read the description of Coulter in the books and thought "it just sounds like she looks like Nicole Kidman." Apparently not.

WOOOOAH. That is such a good choice.
This movie makes me nervous though. I am emotionally invested in the Dark Materials franchise. If they screw this up, my heart will be broken.

They definitely better get that right, because Iorek is BADASS. He is the BEST ever.
Robbie Coltrane? That would be sweet, although might be too much HP crossover.
As long as they don't cast Liam Neeson as Lord Asriel. You know they want to.
And no Dakota Fanning as Lyra. Major poo on that.
Timothy Olyphant might make a good Lee Scoresby.

The rumor is that Paul Bettany is in talks to play Asriel. I normally love him, but I don't see it. Ian McShane would be BADASS.
Oooh, yes, Ian McShane. I also think that Christopher Eccleston'd be interesting.
And good call on Olyphant as Lee Scoresby. That would be marvelous. And he could keep his Deadwood 'stach!
